Canon SX10 versus Panasonic Lumix FZ38

canon SX10As you may have read in my previous blogs I have been thinking about getting a new camera for the past couple of months. At first I wanted to go down the SLR route, however now I have changed my mind and want  to go for a Digital powershot camera.

After lots of thought and consideration I am down to 2 manufactuers, canon and Panasonic. The Canon I am thinking of getting is a Canon Powershot SX10, and the Panasonic is the Lumix DMC-FZ38 which has just come on the market. A couple of weeks ago I went into Guernsey photographics as they had the canon demonstrator over, unfortuntley he was busy at the time but the salesman was very helpful. Compared to the FZ38 the canon is slightly heavier as it takes AA batteries, on the plus points this camera has a flip out LCD screen, 20 x optical zoom and a better aperture range. The panasonic is 18x optical zoom, and comes with HD video. So as you can see both have their good and bad points. I am swaying towards Canon as I have always had canon cameras and have found them to be very good, but the Panasonic is supposed to be the best new camera on the market before going up to the SLR range.

I have read alot of reviews on trusted reviews and dpreviews, both of these said they were pretty much the same apart from a few features.

I think I will have to go into the photography shop again to have another look before I make the purchase, I will keep you updated.

As a friend told me “its not what the camera looks like, its what your looking at through the lens that counts”.
